he just started dying yesterday and it breaks my heart to see him suffer. I have the bubbly oxygen thing going in his tank right now, so that he doesn’t drown. All the sudded yesterday(like over an hour) he lost almost all color and was swimming sideways and he keeps looking like hes not breathing. today, I kept calling my mom while i was at school to make sure that he was okay. Then, she told me that he died and i was prepared for it. So, when i got home,i was telling him goodbye and that he was the best fish and i tapped on the glass(i thought he was “gone”) and he shot up and went and got some air and went back down. I really just want to make him comfortable. Should i just leave him alone? I feel bad that he’s dying, but i feel kinda like i gave him an extra shot at life( i got him from walmart and the tiny cup). Thanks guys! I really appreciate your help!
If you can’t cure him and aren’t willing to euthanize, the only thing you can do is keep him warm, lower the water level so he doesn’t have to swim very much to take a gulp of air, turn out the lights so he doesn’t have to deal with much light. He won’t eat. Keep his water clean (and warm–more bettas die from getting too cold). Put in a little bit of aquarium salt to help his electrolytes.
We are having a gift exchange where I work. But it isn’t a “Secret Santa” type of deal. We are all going to bring in a present (it isn’t addressed to anyone, and it isn’t signed, so no one knows who brought what). Then we all take turns choosing a gift. I guess it’s a variation on the White Elephant gift exchange.
I’m not sure what to get. I saw the following items at a housewares store, and am not sure which to pick. Here they are (they are all more or less the same price):
1) fondue set
2) wooden “breakfast in bed” tray
3) a set of glass ice cream dishes
4) “shot glass” chess set
5) set of wine glasses
which of the items above would be the best one to get?
not everyone knows how to make fondue or might just not want to learn
the tray is iffy also, if you all work 5 days a week, there’s no time for a leisurely breakfast
unless you are sure of everybody involved in the secret santa group, you might be taking a chance with the shot glass set and wine glasses. You might not be aware if someone has a drinking problem.
I would go with the ice cream dishes. it’s different, everyone eats ice cream or they can use it for other things. they could be candy dishes, used for chip dip, cereal…….

I got one for Christmas a couple years back, from my parents, and I’m trying to remember where they got it from. I think it was from a department store, like John Lewis or Debenhams.
Being able to lose 20 pounds is going to have to be some real commitment on your part. This isn’t a two week diet and you’re done to lose that fat. You are going to have to be very focused on the WHY of it all to make this happen. Your WHY probably needs to be near and dear to your heart to pull this one off. I didn’t say it was going to be impossible, but you do need to be committed daily for at least a month.
What’s it going to take?
Well, you’re going to have to do lots of single things/activities to pull it all together to lose 20 pounds in a short period of time. This is going to require daily exercise, right foods, at the right time, water, and staying motivated.
The hope is that you’re already active at some level. To start off with you have to get the heart pumping, so cardio exercises like running, biking, walking, and swimming, need to be done starting out at 30 minutes 3 times a week. Switch between three or four of them to give your body verity throughout your training. The second week needs to be increased to 40 minutes for each daily event. Increase each week with another 10 minutes tacked on up to finally 60 minutes a shot. The cardio exercises will help you reduce your overall body fat which will in turn make you lose weight.
Push it:
When you’re doing the above events I’m not talking about taking the flat and down hill road. You have got to mix it up with fast or slow or up and down hills. Incorporate elevation into your routine or breast strokes for your swimming to make this happen for you. Setting the treadmill on random will do the trick and is said to burn 9 times the calories vs. a flat setting. Use this same concept with your other vehicles of exercise and don’t waste or time and you’ll reach your goal faster.
Having a balanced diet is very important if you want to lose weight fast. Don’t pass on breakfast it’s your most important meal of the day. Have fruits and vegetables with every meal and you’ll notice it for better digestion and passing of your food. Shouldn’t be said, but no junk food…why even do what you’re doing if you’re going to do that? Better to have a banana, nuts, Apple, or perhaps some yogurt throughout the day. Also, take what you would normally eat and only have half of it. save the other half for later. eating several times over the day helps keep your metabolism running in high gear.
Yep, lots of it. Actually it’s recommended that drink half our body weight in oz each day. This will keep you hydrated and aid you with cleaning out your body as it works hand in hand with all the fruits and vegetables you’re eating. Put down two glasses of water before having dinner and this will help fill you up and not eat as much.
Stay Motivated:
This is where you need to circle back around to your WHY and keep it at the forefront of your mind. Write it down on a piece of paper that your can have posted on the bathroom wall and another in your front packet. Look at it daily along with your exercising and remind yourself WHY you’re doing this. Stay optimistic about it and you’ll have lost 20 pounds before you know it.
